Summary

Esports Entertainment Group wanted to have an app for football that shows matches and up to date live matches as well as detailed stats of each team. I was tasked with coming up a design as a concept to show stakeholders.

CHALLENGE

Since this is for football it would mean displaying different leagues, matches, live matches and stats as stakeholders wanted. This would be quite busy looking page with all these information.

ROLES

As concept design I am the only designer for this project, when we get the green light from stakeholders then we would bring on another designer and developers.

PROCESS

I started out a brainstorming session working out how to achieve a nice clean look but also contain all this information, the only option really is horizontal scrolling to show all the leagues and featured/live matches. I thought about a sidebar but that then limits the screen real estate and can’t have a sidebar sliding in and out that’s not ideal.

I then created a mood board to get a sense of the layouts and the look. Each page is personalised to the user’s activities, the most used leagues are towards the front and easily accessible. Live matches have minutes showing how long the match has been going on. Then no-live matches are simpler showing the teams, time, and date of the match.

The stats were a bit trickier but I think I came up with a pretty decent design to show the stats for the two teams in a match, they are shown side by side and in two columns which are left always a home team and the right is visiting team, the stats progress bars starts out in the middle which makes easier when its right below the name of the stat, numbers and percentage is a bonus to create a more accurate detail, users generally does quick scans and this layout for the stats shows the comparison immediately.

CONCLUSION

The Score App did not get a go-ahead for further development due to the company directing resources to current projects and it was put on hold. It would have been an amazingly fun project to carry on and be able to get the whole app done and live but not all projects get to see the light of day.

Even though it was a short project I enjoyed it immensely, when there’s a problem that I managed to solve it is satisfying to see that there is a solution to almost everything, it just takes effort and time to get there.
